Bio
Posted by waxdot
I started getting interested in music as a child. In 6th grade I got a guitar for Christmas from my godfather and started taking lessons. At that time my brother and I were listening to a wide variety of music. Some of our favorites were Public Enemy, Guns n Roses, NWA, DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, Janet Jackson, Def Leppard, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and way way more that I’m not gonna sit here and name. Throughout middle school he played drums and I played guitar and we were writing songs and also writing raps. In high school we got into jamming with a few different people and eventually formed a band with our friend Chris Frazer on drums, Herbal T on bass, and me on guitar. At this time we owned a 4 track recorder and were recording alot of songs at our parents’ house in the basement. We recorded rap songs, go go songs, rock songs, funk songs, and all kinds of random music.
Our band, named “MacGregor” directly after the sporting goods brand that makes anything from coolers to white soccer cleats, was playing at local rec centers and parties and what not all through high school. We even had a yearly festival we put on for four years straight called “Mayfest” (it took place in May shockingly). The first one was in the backyard of our parents’ house. We built a small stage and charged cover and everything. Why I’m bringing this up in my bio I have no Idea, I’m just kinda typing as I go. We also picked up our good friend Greg Kiatta on percussion at this time. He played timbales, congas, and various cowbells, woodblocks, tambourines and such.
After high school my brother and I attended the University of Maryland where we were roommates in a dorm for our first two years. The band was playing shows in Baltimore, DC, and throughout that area. It was at this time that we picked up a horn section. At first it was just two trumpets (we really didn’t know shit, we just wanted to have some new instrumentation in our band) played by Brian Hint and Dave Ellis aka The Eugenic. Our sound could have been described at that time as funk mixed with various other genres such as hip hop and classic rock. We always threw random rap parts in all our songs. Dave learned how to play the alto saxophone instead of the trumpet and we also picked up a tenor sax player to round out the sound of our horn section.
Our last two years of college the band all moved into a house together. The infamous 8604 34th Avenue crib. We were basically a fraternity of musicians. We partied hard as hell and practiced in the laundry room. We recorded our first album “Universal Mathematics” at this time. Peep the “music” section of this website to learn more about that album. We were really into funk music and hip hop music at this time and our band was starting to basically morph those two genres to create a unique sound. At this house we also recorded tons of rap songs on our four track recorder and freestyled at parties and shit like that.
As time went on we graduated college and for a time the band became very serious. We were touring throughout the East Coast and midwest, opening for acts such as Wyclef Jean, Cypress Hill, The Roots, and many others I can’t think of right now. We did a few tours with the group 2 Skinnee J’s and we gained a decent sized following. We recorded two more albums that were much more unique to our own style than our first album. Peep the “music” section of this website to hear those albums. We weren’t making enough money off the music to survive without “regular jobs”, but we were doing cool shows and writing some good songs. Oh yeah, I recorded and released a solo hip hop album called “Biatch” at this time too. Peep the “music” section of this website for more details.
Eventually, the band split up. One of our problems was that we were all (well, not me so much haha) pretty successful outside of the band. We had already been through a bunch of different lineup changes in the horn section (peace to Mike G, Russ Bly, Brian Hint, Dave Ellis, Devin, and Jake Honoroff). Every member was college educated and some people decided it was time to get serious about their lives/careers. I wouldn’t say that I was one of the people in the band that wanted to “move on”, but there were enough people in that boat that it would’ve been pointless for me to try to find new members anyway. Besides everyone, myself included, was starting to get a little burnt out. When you have a 40 hour a week job and you have to spend pretty much all of your free time dedicating yourself to a band it does get pretty tiring. The problem with me was that I didn’t have another career I was focused on or anything. I always based my job selection on “what friend can hook me up with some job”.
Anyway, I had a bunch of jobs after graduating college. I’ll try to list them in order: Office Assistant at an Electrical Engineering firm, Deli Delivery Driver, Hotel Software Tech Support Agent, Mortgage Broker, Landscaper/laborer for a Pond-Building company, Courier, Laborer/Assistant at a Concrete Countertop company, and delivery driver for a Grocery Store. None of these jobs I took seriously as far as a long term career. I always wanted to do something with my music.
After the band broke up I lived in Maryland for awhile and was writing and recording with my brother up in Baltimore. His girlfriend (now wife) got a job in San Diego and they decided to move out there. The person that hooked her up with a job eventually also hooked up my girlfriend-at-that-time with a job…so I said fuck it and moved out there too. I wasn’t doing anything of note in MD so I really had nothing to lose. Plus I had heard it was nice out there and me and Herbs had more music to record. We finished the second half of our album “Grizzly Season” in San Diego and got a bunch of copies printed. We weren’t doing any shows whatsoever.
So I’m out in San Diego, we put out that album, I’m working construction, my girl leaves me and goes back to MD, I listen to a lot of Johnny Paycheck while living in a garage, and eventually I decide I should try to do something better with my life. I have always been interested in recording. I had a few different recording devices and had been to a bunch of different studios with the band and with Herbs. I never took the time to learn a lot about audio engineering on my own though. Point is, I got an enormous student loan and moved to Los Angeles to attend the Los Angeles Recording School.
Around that time was when I discovered that if I put videos of myself up on the internet people would watch them and possibly even like them. With my student loan money I was able to buy a computer, audio recording software, a video camera, and pay my rent while going to school. I really enjoyed the school and I learned a lot about recording. Throughout the time I was going to school there I was living by myself and making random youtube videos. I gained some popularity through all this and people were hitting me up online trying to get me to rap on their beats and what not. Eventually I met EOM through myspace and we ended up recording our album “Liquid Courage” while I was living here in LA. Peep the “music” section of this website for more details about that album. EOM is now a very good friend of mine and we’re working on more music all the time.
School ended and I never did get a job in a studio. It’s not easy in LA with all the competition and once I did get a job as a delivery dude I kinda got “settled” into that position and was more interested in making my own music. EOM and I did have some success with our album and the youtube fanbase is still growing. Still making videos and songs and shit like that. As I type this I’m at a turning point in my life and we’ll see where everything goes. The goal is to just start touring my ass off and make a living off that….. Starting this October with The Wax and Herbal T Low Budget Mystery Tour!!!
That was basically my musical biography off the dome. I also could write stuff about relationships, heartbreak, emotions, addictions, stress, love, sex, drugs, etc. but I will save that for the VH1 behind the music team to sort out after i overdose.

Let VH1 cover behind the music when you’re big, like the next “DIDDY” or some shit. U got this, man. U definetly r off the bunrack or meatrack or whatever rack you’d like to call it… far blow many of the various popular artists today out of the water… We just need to get you hooks.
